Abide in My Love

Scripture: John 15:9–10 (ESV)

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.”

Focus:

The Christian life is sustained by remaining in Christ’s love.

Devotional

One of the greatest invitations Jesus ever gave wasn’t to work harder—it was to abide.

To abide means to remain, to dwell, to make your home in Him.

Many Christians live as though God’s love must be earned each day. We have a good day spiritually and feel close to Him. We fail, and we assume He has pushed us away.

But Jesus begins with these words:

“As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you.”

Think about that.

The same love the Father has for the Son is the love Christ has for His people.

That love doesn’t fluctuate with your emotions or your performance. It is steadfast because it is rooted in God’s character.

Jesus then tells us to abide in that love.

How?

By remaining close to Him.

By trusting His Word.

By walking in obedience—not to earn His love, but because we are already loved.

The healthiest Christian life isn’t one that is driven by guilt. It is one that is captivated by the love of Christ.

The more you experience His love, the more naturally your heart desires to obey Him.

Love is the soil where obedience grows.

Reflection Question

Do I approach God as someone trying to earn His love, or as a child resting in the love Christ has already given me?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with an unfailing love. Teach me to remain in You every day. Let my obedience flow from love rather than obligation, and help me never lose sight of the incredible love You have shown me through the cross.
