Courage Comes From God’s Presence

Scripture: Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Focus

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is choosing to move forward because God is with you.

Devotional

Joshua was stepping into a responsibility that could have easily overwhelmed him.

Moses was gone.

A nation was depending on him.

Enemies stood ahead.

The future was uncertain.

God did not tell Joshua that the journey would be easy. He reminded him that he would not face it alone.

“The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

That was the foundation of Joshua’s courage.

Sometimes we wait to feel fearless before we obey God. But courage often begins while fear is still present.

You may feel nervous about a conversation, a decision, a new season, or an assignment God has placed before you.

Fear may say, “What if I fail?”

Faith answers, “God will be with me.”

Courage does not come from believing you are strong enough. It comes from believing God is faithful enough.

You do not need to know every step.

You do not need to have every answer.

You only need to trust the One who is walking with you.

Reflection Question

What step of obedience have I been avoiding because of fear?

Prayer

“Father, help me be strong and courageous. When I feel afraid or discouraged, remind me that You are with me. Give me the faith to obey You even when I do not feel ready.”

Key Truth

Your courage is not based on your ability. It is based on God’s presence.
