God Is Near to the Brokenhearted

Scripture: Psalm 34:18 (NLT)

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”

Focus

God does not distance Himself from us in our pain. He draws near.

Devotional

Pain can make us feel alone.

When our hearts are broken, we may wonder whether anyone truly understands what we are carrying. We may even feel like God is far away.

But Scripture tells us the opposite.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”

God is not intimidated by your sadness. He is not disappointed by your tears. He does not ask you to pretend everything is okay before coming to Him.

He meets you in the middle of your pain.

Jesus showed this throughout His ministry. He stopped for the hurting, wept with those who were grieving, and showed compassion to people others overlooked.

God may not always remove the pain immediately, but He promises to be present within it.

Sometimes healing begins when we stop hiding our brokenness and bring it honestly before the Lord.

You do not have to carry everything by yourself.

The same God who sees your pain also has the power to restore your heart. He can use even the most painful seasons to deepen your faith, strengthen your compassion, and draw you closer to Him.

Your brokenness is not proof that God has abandoned you.

It may become the very place where you experience His presence most deeply.

Reflection Question

Have I been hiding my pain from God instead of allowing Him to meet me in it?

Prayer

Father, thank You for drawing near when my heart is hurting. Help me bring my pain honestly before You. Comfort me, restore me, and remind me that I am never alone in what I am facing.
