God Is Working in You

Scripture — Philippians 2:12–16 (KJV)
“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed… work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation…
Holding forth the word of life…”
Focus
God is not only working around you. He is working inside you.
Devotional
Sometimes spiritual growth can feel slow.
You may notice areas where you still struggle.
You may wonder why certain attitudes, habits, or temptations have not disappeared yet.
But Paul gives us an encouraging truth:
God is working in you.
That means your growth is not based only on your own effort.
Yes, you are called to obey.
Yes, you are called to discipline yourself.
Yes, you are called to take sin seriously.
But underneath all of that, God is actively shaping your desires and giving you strength to obey Him.
He is changing what you want.
He is changing how you think.
He is teaching you to respond differently.
He is making you more like Jesus.
Sometimes that change is dramatic.
Other times it happens slowly through hundreds of small choices.
You forgive when you used to hold grudges.
You pray instead of immediately worrying.
You control your words when you used to react.
You become more patient.
More humble.
More generous.
More sensitive to sin.
Those changes matter.
They are evidence that God is working.
Paul then connects this inner transformation with the way we live around other people.
He tells believers not to constantly complain and argue.
Why?
Because our lives are supposed to stand out.
In a world full of negativity, selfishness, anger, and division, someone who lives with joy, humility, integrity, and peace becomes noticeable.
Your life can point people toward Jesus before you ever preach a message.
The way you work matters.
The way you respond when frustrated matters.
The way you talk about people matters.
The way you handle difficulty matters.
You are carrying the word of life into ordinary situations every day.
So do not become discouraged because you are not finished yet.
God is still working.
Your responsibility is to cooperate with what He is doing.
Listen when He convicts you.
Obey when He leads you.
Repent when you fall.
And keep moving forward.
Reflection Questions
Where can I see evidence that God has already changed me?
What area of my character is He currently asking me to surrender more fully?
Prayer
Father, thank You for continuing to work in me. Change my desires, my thoughts, my attitudes, and my actions. Help me cooperate with Your work instead of resisting it. Make my life look increasingly like Jesus, and let the way I live point other people toward You.
