Knowing The Wisdom Of God

James 1:5-7 (NLT)

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

  • What is wisdom in this context?

It is divine wisdom—skill and intelligence that come from God. It is not the kind of wisdom the world offers, but a wisdom that can only be found in God.

  • Who is a person with divided loyalty?

Someone who tries to mix God’s wisdom with worldly wisdom, not fully committed to either one.

Truths:

  • Wisdom can come in different ways. It is found in the Word of God, which is God-breathed. It can also be received during worship or in prayer with Him.

  • Wisdom is not the same as knowledge. You can have endless amounts of knowledge but no wisdom. True wisdom is taking the knowledge you have and applying it throughout your life under God’s guidance.

Application:

God calls every believer to ask Him for wisdom. He promises to give it when we ask, but we cannot expect to receive it if we never ask. Go boldly to God and seek His wisdom—it surpasses all the wisdom the world can offer. Let God lead you in every step, and guard your heart against people or voices whose “wisdom” does not align with Scripture.

Prayer:

God, I thank You for today. I boldly come before Your throne and ask You for godly wisdom. Lead me in all my ways, and protect me from anything or anyone that would pull me away from the wisdom You teach. I love You and I praise You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
