Learning to Abide
Share
Scripture: John 15:4–5
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me… for without Me you can do nothing.”
Focus:
Fruitfulness flows from fellowship.
Devotional
In our culture, it’s easy to become consumed with doing more, accomplishing more, and being more productive. But Jesus never told His disciples to strive harder. He told them to abide.
A branch doesn’t struggle to produce fruit. It simply stays connected to the vine.
Likewise, the Christian life was never meant to be lived independently. We were created to draw our strength, wisdom, and life from Christ.
Sometimes we become frustrated because we are trying to produce spiritual fruit through human effort. We try harder to be loving, patient, joyful, or peaceful, but Jesus reminds us that fruit is not manufactured—it is produced through relationship.
The secret to a fruitful life is not greater activity but deeper intimacy.
Spend time with Him.
Talk with Him.
Listen to Him.
Remain in Him.
As you do, the Holy Spirit begins to transform you from the inside out.
Reflection Question
Am I more focused on doing things for God than spending time with God?
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to abide in You. Help me to value Your presence above productivity and to remember that apart from You, I can do nothing.
