Loving God With Your Whole Heart
Share
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 (ESV)
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Focus:
God desires wholehearted devotion, not divided affection.
Devotional
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He pointed back to these words from Deuteronomy. Out of all the commandments, He said this was the greatest.
Why?
Because everything else flows from it.
If you truly love God with all your heart, you’ll desire to obey Him.
If you truly love God, you’ll begin to love what He loves and turn away from what grieves Him.
God has never been interested in part of your heart.
He doesn’t ask for your Sundays while the world gets the rest of the week.
He doesn’t ask for a portion of your affection while money, comfort, success, or approval sit beside Him on the throne of your heart.
He desires all of you.
Not because He is needy, but because He knows that your heart will always be shaped by whatever you love most.
The question isn’t whether you worship.
Everyone worships something.
The question is: Who or what has your highest affection?
When God becomes the greatest love of your life, everything else begins to find its proper place.
You love people better.
You handle success with humility.
You endure trials with hope.
You obey with joy.
A heart fully devoted to God is the most fulfilling life a person can live.
Reflection Question
If someone looked at my priorities, my time, and my thoughts, what would they say I love most?
Prayer
Father, I don’t want to give You half of my heart. Teach me to love You with all that I am. Remove anything that competes for my highest affection, and let my life be marked by wholehearted devotion to You.
