Peace in the Middle of the Storm
Share
Scripture: Mark 4:39–40 (NLT)
“When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, ‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’”
Focus:
Jesus may not always prevent the storm, but He is always present in it.
Devotional
The disciples were experienced fishermen, but this storm was strong enough to terrify them.
The waves were crashing into the boat. Water was filling it. Everything around them looked out of control.
Yet Jesus was still with them.
Sometimes we assume that following Jesus means we will avoid storms. But the disciples were in the storm while obeying Him. Difficulty is not always a sign that you are outside God’s will.
The disciples looked at the waves and believed they were going to die. Jesus looked at the storm and spoke peace.
The difference was not the size of the storm. It was their understanding of who was in the boat.
Fear says, “This situation is bigger than me.”
Faith says, “This situation is not bigger than Jesus.”
You may be facing something today that feels overwhelming. The circumstances may not change immediately, but the presence of Jesus changes how you walk through them.
He is not afraid.
He is not surprised.
He has not lost control.
Sometimes Jesus calms the storm around you. Other times, He calms the storm within you. Either way, you can trust Him.
Reflection Question
What storm am I allowing to appear greater than the power and presence of Jesus?
Prayer
Jesus, when fear rises in me, remind me that You are present. Help me trust You even when life feels out of control. Speak peace over my heart and strengthen my faith in the middle of the storm.
