Seeking First the Kingdom

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Focus:

When God is first, everything else finds its proper place.

Devotional

Every day we choose what comes first.

For some, it’s work.
For others, it’s money, comfort, success, or even good things like family and hobbies.

Jesus asks a different question: What is first in your heart?

He doesn’t say, “Seek the Kingdom when you have time.” He says, “Seek first His kingdom.”

To seek God’s Kingdom means to make His rule, His will, and His glory the highest priority in your life. It means asking, “Lord, what do You want?” before asking, “What do I want?”

When God is first, our decisions change.
Our priorities change.
Our relationships change.
Our perspective changes.

This doesn’t mean we stop caring about our daily needs. Jesus had just finished teaching about food, clothing, and worry. His point was that our heavenly Father already knows what we need. We don’t have to spend our lives chasing what He has promised to provide.

When we pursue God’s Kingdom above everything else, we learn that He is faithful to care for His children.

Reflection Question

What has been competing with God for first place in my heart?

Prayer

Father, help me to seek Your Kingdom before everything else. Align my heart with Your will, and teach me to trust You with every need. May my life be centered on Your glory rather than my own.
