Source Of Life

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

(John 15:1–2, ESV)

These are Jesus’ words. When He says, “I am the true vine,” He is declaring that He alone is the source of life. Everything that produces real fruit flows from Him. The Father is the vinedresser—the loving caretaker who tends the vine, pruning what is necessary so that more fruit can grow.

Verse 2 paints a powerful picture: the Father either removes or prunes branches. This reveals God’s ultimate plan being unveiled—there is a separation between those who truly abide in Christ and those who do not.

Jesus goes on to say:

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”

(John 15:4, ESV)

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you become a new creation. With that new life comes a call to abide in Him. Abiding means remaining close—staying connected—not drifting away or living independently from Him.

Today, the word “Christian” doesn’t carry the weight it once did. Many people call themselves Christians, but they do not truly abide in Jesus Christ. Abiding is more than a label; it is a life of dependence, intimacy, and obedience.

So take a step back and ask yourself:

• Am I abiding in Christ?

• Is He the one I look to for life, strength, and direction?

• Is everything I do powered by His life within me?

Ask yourself what it would look like to live fully dependent on Jesus. Let His words carry real weight in your life. He wants to empower every step you take with His love and peace.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for today. Thank You for everything You have done for me.

Jesus, be my vine, and prune me into the person You want me to be.

I love You, and I praise You.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray.

Amen.
