The Fear Of The Lord
Share
Scripture: Proverbs 9:10
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Focus:
True wisdom begins with a right view of God.
Devotional
When Scripture speaks about the fear of the Lord, it is not talking about being terrified of God. It is speaking of reverence, awe, honor, and a deep recognition of who He is.
Many of life’s problems begin when we lose sight of God’s greatness.
When God becomes small in our minds, sin becomes less serious, obedience becomes optional, and our own opinions become more important than His Word.
But when we see God rightly—holy, sovereign, powerful, loving, and just—everything changes.
The fear of the Lord produces humility.
It reminds us that we are not the center of the universe—God is.
It teaches us to trust His wisdom above our own understanding.
It leads us to obedience, not because we have to, but because we recognize His worthiness.
Throughout Scripture, those who encountered God were transformed. Isaiah cried, “Woe is me!” when he saw the Lord’s holiness. John the Apostle fell at Christ’s feet when he received his heavenly vision.
A greater vision of God leads to a greater devotion to God.
The more we know Him, the more we worship Him.
Reflection Question
Do I approach God casually, or do I approach Him with reverence and awe?
Prayer
“Father, give me a greater understanding of Your holiness and majesty. Teach me to fear You rightly, to honor You deeply, and to walk in the wisdom that comes from knowing You.”
