The Holiness of God
Share
Scripture: 1 Peter 1:15–16
“But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
Focus:
Holiness is not merely avoiding sin—it is becoming more like God.
Devotional
When many people hear the word holiness, they immediately think of a list of things they shouldn’t do.
But in Scripture, holiness begins with God, not with us.
God is perfectly holy.
Everything He does is pure.
Everything He says is true.
Everything He desires is good.
Peter doesn’t simply tell us to avoid sin—he points us to the character of God. Our calling is to reflect the One who has called us.
Holiness is not about earning God’s love. We are already loved through Christ. Instead, holiness is the natural response of a heart that has encountered a holy God.
The closer we draw to Him, the more we begin to hate what separates us from Him.
Holiness isn’t about becoming self-righteous.
It’s about becoming Christ-like.
It affects how we speak.
How we think.
How we spend our time.
How we treat others.
How we respond when no one is watching.
God is not calling us to perfection in our own strength. He is calling us to daily surrender as the Holy Spirit continues His work of transforming us into the image of Christ.
Reflection Question
Is there an area of my life where God is inviting me to pursue greater holiness?
Prayer
Holy Father, thank You for calling me to belong to You. By Your Spirit, continue to transform my heart so that my thoughts, words, and actions reflect Your holiness. Help me to love what You love and turn away from what dishonors You.
