The Presence of God Is the Greatest Gift
Share
Scripture: Exodus 33:15–16 (ESV)
“And he said to him, ‘If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight… Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct…?’”
Focus:
God’s presence is more valuable than God’s blessings.
Devotional
After Israel sinned with the golden calf, God told Moses that He would still give the people the Promised Land, but His presence would not go with them.
Moses’ response is one of the most remarkable statements in all of Scripture:
“If Your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.”
Moses understood something that we often forget.
The greatest blessing was never the Promised Land.
It was the presence of God.
Many of us pray for God’s provision.
We pray for opportunities.
We pray for healing.
We pray for open doors.
Those are good prayers.
But do we long for God Himself more than the things He can give us?
A mature believer doesn’t seek God’s hand more than God’s face.
The greatest reward of the Christian life is not success, comfort, or even answered prayer.
It is walking with the living God.
One day, every earthly blessing will pass away.
But the presence of God will remain forever.
Make His presence your greatest pursuit, and you’ll discover that nothing else compares.
Reflection Question
If God gave me everything I asked for, but I didn’t grow closer to Him, would I truly be satisfied?
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I’ve sought Your gifts more than I’ve sought You. Create in me a heart like Moses—a heart that values Your presence above every blessing. Let my greatest desire be to know You, walk with You, and enjoy fellowship with You every day.
