Thought Life Matters

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Philippians 4:8 (NIV)


Your thoughts matter. What you think about shapes your life.


So let me ask you—what have you been thinking about lately? Are your thoughts centered on the things of God, as we see in the verse above? Or are they filled with worry, anxiety, and discouragement?


Take a moment and reflect on this past week. What’s been occupying your mind? Are your thoughts producing good fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

Because your thoughts are the seeds that grow into the fruit of your life.


For me, I want every thought to produce good fruit. Why would I want anything else? When our thoughts are aligned with God’s truth, our lives overflow with His peace and joy. But when we let negative or anxious thoughts take over, we lose sight of the joy God freely gives.


This ties in with yesterday’s devotional: don’t let the devil rob your joy. Instead, let Jesus renew your mind so you can live in His peace.


2 Ways to Grow in Your Thought Life:


1. Read Your Bible

God’s Word teaches us what is right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. You might think you already know what these things mean, but to truly grow in your thought life, you need to know God’s heart—and His heart is revealed through Scripture.


2. Pray

Prayer isn’t just talking to God—it’s building a relationship with Him. You can know about God and still not know Him personally. When you develop a relationship through prayer, your thoughts begin to align with His. You’ll start to recognize His voice and gain discernment about which thoughts are from Him and which are not.


Application:


I challenge you to fill your mind with what is right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Let these thoughts rule your mind, and watch how your life begins to transform.

Stay rooted in the Word and prayer, and let God be the Lord of your thought life—you won’t regret it.


Prayer:


Lord, I thank You for today and for everything You’ve done. I boldly come before Your throne and ask You to be the Lord of my thought life. I want Your love, joy, and peace—nothing else. I rebuke every wrong thought and invite You to renew my mind. Lord, I love You and I praise You. Amen.
