To Live Is Christ And To Die Is Gain

Philippians 1:21–23, 25 (NIV)
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; … Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith.”
This passage is a powerful reminder of two things: the preciousness of life on earth and the hope of what is to come in heaven.
While we are here, God calls us to live in the image and likeness of Christ—not according to the world’s standards, but by His Word. “To live is Christ” means that our lives should reflect the way Jesus lived and taught. It means sacrifice, service, and love for others, even when it costs us something. Just as Jesus gave Himself for us, we are called to give ourselves for those around us.
The people in this world need us to share the Good News—that Jesus became the sacrifice for our sins and is the only way to eternal life. This is the Great Commission, and it isn’t something to postpone until tomorrow. It’s something to live out today.
At the same time, Paul reminds us to live with eternity in view. Heaven will be greater than anything we can imagine, but until then, God has placed us here with purpose. There are still souls who need to hear the message of salvation, and God’s plan is not yet complete.
Prayer
Father, thank You for today and for all You have done. I come boldly before Your throne, asking for peace and comfort for Charlie Kirk’s family and friends. Surround them with Your presence in the mighty name of Jesus. I thank You for Charlie’s life and for the impact he made in Your name. Lord, I ask for boldness—for myself and for others—to go out and spread the message of Jesus with love and urgency. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
