Trusting God in the Wilderness
Share
Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:2
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart…”
Focus:
God uses wilderness seasons to shape us, not abandon us.
Devotional
No one asks for wilderness seasons.
They’re the seasons where prayers seem unanswered, doors remain closed, and life doesn’t look the way we expected. We often assume that if life is difficult, God must be distant.
But throughout Scripture, the wilderness was never evidence of God’s absence. It was often the place of God’s preparation.
The Israelites experienced the wilderness before entering the Promised Land.
Moses spent forty years in the wilderness before leading Israel.
David endured years of waiting before becoming king.
Even Jesus was led into the wilderness before beginning His public ministry.
The wilderness reveals what prosperity often conceals. It exposes our fears, teaches us dependence, and reminds us that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
If you’re in a wilderness season, don’t mistake God’s silence for His absence.
He is still leading.
He is still providing.
He is still forming Christ within you.
The wilderness is not where God forgets His people.
It is often where they learn to know Him more deeply.
Reflection Question
What might God be teaching me in this season that I could not learn any other way?
Prayer
Father, help me to trust You in the wilderness. When I cannot see where You’re leading, remind me that Your presence is with me. Teach me to depend on You and to believe that You are working even in the waiting.
