God Is Close to the Humble

Scripture: Psalm 51:17 (NLT)

“The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”

Focus

God is drawn to honesty, humility, and repentance.

Devotional

We sometimes think we need to come to God with everything figured out.

Strong faith.
Perfect words.
No weakness.

But Scripture shows something very different.

God is not looking for a polished performance.

He is looking for a surrendered heart.

David wrote Psalm 51 after being confronted with serious sin. He could not undo what he had done. He could only come before God honestly.

And that is exactly what God wanted.

A broken and repentant heart says:

“Lord, I was wrong.”

“I need Your mercy.”

“I cannot fix myself without You.”

Humility opens the door for grace.

Pride tries to hide.

Repentance comes into the light.

The beautiful thing about God is that He does not reject the person who comes to Him sincerely.

You do not have to clean yourself up before you approach Him.

Come honestly.

Come humbly.

Come willing to change.

God can do incredible things with a heart that is fully surrendered to Him.

Reflection Question

Is there anything I have been hiding, defending, or refusing to surrender to God?

Prayer

Father, give me a humble and honest heart. Show me anything in my life that needs repentance, and give me the courage to bring it into the light. Thank You for Your mercy and for never rejecting a heart that truly turns back to You.
